BATON ROUGE STARTING TO FEEL THE EFFECTS OF THE MISSISSIPPI!

Due to the rising waters of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge the Police Department is prohibiting the parking of vehicles on the west side of River Road along the Mississippi River Levee, within the city limits. The City Parish has already put barricades and signs in place and more are expected to be erected in the next few days. Violators will be ticketed and if the owner of the vehicle in violation cannot be located the vehicle is subject to be towed.

The Police Department has seen an increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic since the water began to rise. At the present time pedestrian traffic will not be affected. We realize that this is an historic event and everyone wants to see the rising waters so we ask that you find a safe place to park on the eastside of River Road, not obstructing traffic flow, and walk across the road to the levee. We ask that you use caution while crossing the road and again while around the high water.

The Police Department will have officers in the area of the levee to ensure the safety of the public and to enforce all restrictions until the water recedes.
