WAY TO GO CHRIS PENA - NETWORK BOUND!

Chris Pena NBC News

NBC News executive Chris Pena has really climbed the corporate ladder.  It was about 5 or so years ago when Pena was a talented member of the FOX 26 photography department.  But Pena saw the opportunity to pursue his true dream in management and seized the moment.  Now, it was recently announced he's soon to be an executive with NBC News - that would be the network - booyaa!  Way to go Chris!
NBC Press Release:
Chris Pena (pictured left), who’s been overseeing daily news operations and special projects at WMAQ-Channel 5since 2008, is leaving the NBC-owned station to take on a new position with NBC News in New York.
Pena will continue as assistant news director here through the end of the May ratings sweeps before joining the network in early June. His new role with NBC News is expected to be announced soon.
Confirming Pena’s departure, Frank Whittaker, station manager and vice president of news at NBC 5, told staffers in a memo: “In his two-and-a-half years here, Chris has done a great job overseeing our day-to-day news operations. He has been instrumental in leading us through a number of technical and operational changes. He has overseen the growth of our content center. Chris has been my partner in crime, and I will particularly miss his wisdom and guidance.”
During his tenure at NBC 5, Pena was credited with leading a restructuring of news operations, with an emphasis on multi-platform distribution.
Pena, a graduate of the University of Houston, joined NBC 5 after serving as executive producer of NBC-owned WTVJ-TV in Miami and news director of NBC/Telemundo’s KTMD-TV.
His departure is the first major personnel move at the station here since Comcast Corp. completed its takeover of parent company NBC Universal in late January. More changes are expected to follow.
An opening for Pena’s position as assistant news director has been posted.
